For global assignees, the first day in a new country are critical. It’s the moment where the excitement of a new opportunity meets the exhaustion of travel and the uncertainty of the unknown. The first day of a global assignment sets the tone for the entire relocation experience. That’s why it’s essential to make this transition as easy, smooth and welcoming as possible.
At the Airport
It all starts at the airport. After a long-haul flight, the last thing any assignee wants is to figure out how to navigate a new transport system or haggle with taxi drivers in a language they might not yet understand. A professional, pre-arranged airport transfer takes away that uncertainty. A driver waiting at the exit to the customs, holding a sign with the assignee’s name. Showing the way to his vehicle, helping with the luggage, and navigating to the accommodation. This way, all the assignee has to do; is to sit back and relax.
– And what if the plane is delayed?, you may ask
Don’t worry we have that covered too. We monitor all flights to make sure that the driver is ready for you when you arrive. You will have the driver’s details and our supplier’s emergency contact. Every step is taken care of.
Why provide an airport transfer?
At the Accommodation
Once the assignee have had a good night’s sleep and a chance to get settled in, assignees can take the next step toward settling in: collecting their rental car. Arranging for vehicle pickup the day after arrival allows them to ease into their new destination without the pressure of navigating unfamiliar roads while jet-lagged. The rental car pick-up is simple, with all paperwork pre-completed and clear directions to the pickup point, ideally conveniently located nearby. It’s a small shift in timing that makes a big difference in confidence and comfort. Scheduling pickup for the following day, rather than arranging it at the airport, not only gives the assignee time to rest and is safer than driving on unfamiliar roads after a long flight, but also helps avoid the higher rates typically charged by airport rental locations. Picking up a vehicle from a local branch is often significantly more cost-effective, and can be just as convenient if planned in advance.
Ana, Montreal, Quebec, Canada: It was very good to have someone picking us up at the airport. My husband and kids also took the transfer, and it helped tremendously – we had a lot of luggage with us, and the kids were tired. The service was perfect, thank you!
Isabelle, Boston, Massachusetts: My experience with the airport transfer was great! The driver was punctual, very nice and helpful and drove me to the perfect terminal. He also made sure that I was good to go. I would definitely recommend your services! My moving out went really smoothly so thank you!
Getting these basics right builds trust. It tells the assignee that their time and wellbeing matter, and that the company values the human side of relocation, not just the logistics.
In global mobility, the success of an assignment is often shaped by moments that don’t happen at a desk. Day One is one of those moments. When companies make it a priority, they don’t just ease a transition, they build the foundation for a productive, positive, and engaged experience abroad. Companies who invest in getting Day One right are setting up their people (and their business outcomes) for long-term success.
