If you hold a valid driving license from one of the European Economic Area (EEA) countries, you can use it to drive in Sweden. Licenses issued in the US are also valid in Sweden, but if your document does not have a picture of you on it you will need to carry a separate photo ID. The same rules apply for Australian and Canadian drivers.
If you come from an EU country, your driver’s license is valid for as long as it would be valid in your home country. If you are a non-EU citizen, your driver’s license will generally be valid for up to a year. After that, most nationalities will have to acquire a Swedish driver’s license.
How to Exchange your Foreign Driver’s License for a Swedish Driver’s License
