  • What makes of cars do you offer?

    At this time, we're able to offer Volvo models through our program.

  • What documents are needed to start the car leasing process?

    The following documents are needed:
    • Swedish personal identity number
    • a document that verifies the salary
    • a document proving that this individual will stay for the length of the lease

  • What is the length of term available?

    We offer lease terms of 12, 24 and 36 months. The longer the lease term, the lower the monthly payments.

  • What is the expected delivery time for my Volvo?

    The delivery time varies from 2-7 months depending on model. We offer rental cars while you wait.

  • How much can I expect to pay in taxes for my Volvo in a year?

    The yearly tax varies depending on the emissions of the car. Currently, you could expect to pay about SEK 6000 for a Volvo V90 D4 AWD.

  • Is insurance included in the lease?

    Yes, insurance is included. The deductible is between SEK1,500 to SEK 8,500 depending on the extent of the damage.

  • Do you support Global Mobility HR with their expats’ transportation needs?

    Yes, we can assist corporate human resource divisions in coordinating all transportation needs for their employees on international assignments.

  • Do you offer corporations direct billing via invoicing instead of credit card payment?

    Yes, we offer different payment options worldwide for corporations. This is individually accessed and may not be available for all.

  • How can ExpatRide support our corporate relocation service needs?

    We work with you to establish a global mobility program for all aspects of car transportation. Aligning customary transportation across continents, budgets, allowances, self-pay, approved vehicles, individually tailored solutions, and centralized direct billing arrangement across all services.

    If you work with a Relocation Management Company. We can support and implement the plan mentioned above together with the RMC, including coordinating expense management for your employees, thus utilizing the relocation support services infrastructure already provided to you by the RMC. We work with all the major RMCs and Destination Services Providers.

Practical Information on Driving in Sweden

Speed Limits

Built-up areas: 30km/h – though limits of 20km/h are common too
Two-lane roads in the countryside: 50-90km/h
Dual carriageways: 100km/h
Motorways: 110 – 120km/h on some highways

Alcohol & Driving

Don’t do it! Sweden is extremely strict when it comes to alcohol and driving. In Sweden, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, i.e. with a blood alcohol content of minimum 0.02 per cent or more, or a breath alcohol content of 0.10 mg/l or more, is regarded as crime, regardless of whether the driver is involved in an accident or not.

Kids in Cars

Children should be placed rear-faced in the car as long as possible, at least until they are 4 years old. The law says that children less than 135 cm must use car seat. As long as the skeleton isn’t fully grown the child need to be uplifted to the seat belt for it to be fully protective.

The following documents are needed when you drive a car in Sweden:

Minimum Age

The minimum age to drive is 18 years old

Auto Insurance

The minimum insurance coverage in Sweden is:
 for personal injury: maximum SEK 300 million
 for damage to property: maximum SEK 300 million
In excess of this limit, legal expenses and interest can also apply. The limit applies to motor 3rd party liability compensation per vehicle and accident.

Seat Belts

By law, you need to wear a seatbelt at all times.

Driver's License

If you hold a valid driving license from one of the European Economic Area (EEA) countries, you can use it to drive in Sweden. Licenses issued in the US are also valid in Sweden, but if your document does not have a picture of you on it you will need to carry a separate photo ID. The same rules apply for Australian and Canadian drivers.

If you come from an EU country, your driver’s license is valid for as long as it would be valid in your home country. If you are a non-EU citizen, your driver’s license will generally be valid for up to a year. After that, most nationalities will have to acquire a Swedish driver’s license.

How to Exchange your Foreign Driver’s License for a Swedish Driver’s License

You can convert your foreign driver’s license to a Swedish driver’s license, into a local one ‘ provided it is recognized in Sweden and you are a permanent resident. You will need to fill an application for ‘exchange of foreign driver’s license’ (Ansökan om utbyte av utländskt Körkort), which is available on the Swedish Transport Agency website. Note that a Swedish Civic Number and a postal address in Sweden are required for this process.
